“Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.”
This is what Job 8:7 of the Bible says which can be likened to the humble beginnings of Shincheonji Church of Jesus The Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (SCJ) where Chairman Lee Man-hee started to teach the words of God under the canopies of trees in the absence of a physical church 40 years ago.
As it celebrated its 40th anniversary last March 14, SCJ announced the process of transition from its founding to the present with 10,000 churches in South Korea and various parts of the world, including 30 areas with two churches in the Philippines working for the healing of all nations as promised by God.
Founded in 1984, composed of 12 tribes according to the Bible, SCJ aims to produce another 100,000 graduates of its Theology course this year.
Shincheonji, which translates to ‘New Heaven New Earth’, produced over 100,000 graduates of its Theology course three times-in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
According to the ‘40th Anniversary History Report Announcement’ announced at the founding ceremony on the 14th, Shincheonji Church of Jesus was founded on March 14, 1984. At the time of its founding, it did not have a proper temple so worship was held outdoors and only in June of that year did it prepare its first small temple in Bisan-dong, Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
In September of the same year, the ‘Shincheonji Holy Constitution’ was announced, and the following year, in 1985, a Book of Revelation seminar was launched which traveled nationwide.
On March 14, 1995, the 11th anniversary of its founding, the organization of the 12 tribes was completed according to the shape of heaven described in the Bible. Afterwards, in 1999, the General Assembly headquarters and temple were moved to Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, the site where the Book of Revelation was fulfilled, and are still there today.
The Zion Christian Mission Center (ZCMC), a free Bible education institution established by SCJ, has expanded not only in South Korea but in many parts of the world. It teaches not only the prophecies of the Bible but also the reality of their fulfillment in introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels. Starting in 2020, its online education has been launched and is being evaluated as having ushered in an era of full-fledged communications theology.
ZCMC, which held its first graduation ceremony in 1991, held its first ‘100,000 Graduation Ceremony’ by producing 103,764 graduates at its graduation ceremony for Batch 110 in 2019. Afterwards, in 2022 and 2023, 106,186 and 108,084 students completed the course respectively, attaining an unprecedented achievement of admitting more than 100,000 students to the church for two consecutive years.
Included in these numbers are Filipino graduates who attended their separate graduation ceremonies in the Philippines.
Even in the COVID-19 pandemic situation in 2021, when the borders of each country were blocked, an Online Bible Seminar was held. Requests for exchanges from other denominations to learn the Word flooded in and an MOU for Word exchange was signed with 443 churches in Korea and 9,462 churches in 77 countries overseas, including the Philippines. In particular, 1,382 churches in 38 overseas countries changed their signs to Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony after an exchange on the Word.
Last February, a religious leader exchange program was launched in Korea and received a great positive response from about 80 religious leaders from 10 religious denominations not only in Korea but also around the world. Shincheonji Church of Jesus has continued to make efforts not only to put the Word into practice but also Jesus’ teachings of peace.
Meanwhile, Shincheonji Church of Jesus registered its trademark and business emblem which have been designed according to what is recorded in the Book of Revelation with the Korean Intellectual Property Office in 1998 and the trademark and business emblem of the Zion Christian Mission Center were registered with the Korean Intellectual Property Office in 2000.
In addition, through ‘Shincheonji Book Publishing’, Shincheonji books such as ‘Creation of Heaven and Earth’, ‘The Reality of the Book of Revelation the Secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven’ and ‘Acts of Jesus Christ’ have been officially published since 1984 to serve as a guide for believers to lead a religious life based on the Bible.
