QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Teatro Meron, a new and dynamic theater collective, in partnership with Roleplayers as it marks its 20th anniversary, proudly presents Sopranong
Kalbo—a Filipino translation of Eugène Ionesco’s absurdist classic The Bald Soprano by National Artist Rolando S. Tinio and directed by Ron Capinding.

The production runs for a limited engagement from August 8 to 10, 2025, at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University. It also serves as a special birthday tribute to the late
Ricardo G. Abad, a beloved figure in Philippine theater and academia, and also raises funds for the Ricardo G. Abad Endowment Fund for the Sciences and Arts.
The Bald Soprano is a cornerstone of the Theatre of the Absurd. This new Manila-set adaptation, Sopranong Kalbo, transforms the play into a humorous yet unsettling mirror of modern life—where language collapses, meaning frays, and ordinary interactions spiral into chaos.
The production stars a powerhouse cast of veteran theater performers: Miren Alvarez-Fabregas, Pickles Leonidad, Joseph Dela Cruz, Gold Soon, Yan Yuzon, and Joel Macaventa. Teatro Meron and Roleplayers invite media partners, arts advocates, and patrons of the performing arts to support this unique theatrical event, honoring both the absurd and the visionary spirit of Philippine theater.
