El Fuego del Alma Opens This May: A Story of Desire, Distance, and What Remains Unsaid

Porvenir presents El Fuego del Alma, a Filipino adaptation of Summer and Smoke, set for a limited run on May 2–3, 2026 at Sine Pop.

At its core, the piece follows Alma and Juanito, two people drawn to each other yet unable to meet at the same moment in their lives. Their connection moves between longing and restraint, shaped by expectation, fear, and timing. What remains is not resolution, but the weight of what could have been.

The role of Alma is shared by three actresses: Nour Hooshmand, Hariette Mozelle, and Opaline Santos, alternating across performances. Each brings a different emotional register to a character navigating vulnerability, control, and desire.

Sandino Martin takes on the role of Juanito, whose presence challenges Alma’s sense of order and self. Their relationship unfolds in tension, between closeness and distance, confession and silence.

Adapted by Eljay Castro Deldoc and directed by Mark Mirando, the staging is presented as an intimate reading. The stripped-down approach places focus on the actors and the emotional shifts within each scene.

The cast also includes:

  • Madeleine Nicolas
  • Rolando Inocencio
  • Janna Cortes
  • Tristan Bite

Performed in Filipino and staged for an audience of only 50 seats per show, El Fuego del Alma invites viewers into a close encounter with its characters where small gestures, pauses, and unspoken thoughts carry weight.

With only five performances scheduled across one weekend, tickets are limited as opening approaches.
